Twenty years ago I photographed this model and asked her to use my red towel as a prop in any way she wanted. It turned out she had a lot of ideas and together we made six really great photographs. The photograph shown above won a lot of awards and was hung in art galleries across the country, most recently at the Huntington Beach Art Center.
Reflecting back on that ‘red towel’ session led to an inspiration. I am now working on a new project updating my original 1990s concept for 2020 entitled RED TOWEL REVISTED. This new work reflects the feelings and creativity of each woman as she and I work together to capture her unique beauty while maintaining a theme throughout the series by using a simple red towel... or two.
As you can see, my RED TOWEL photograph from twenty years ago was taken in my studio. The RED TOWEL REVISTED project introduces an exciting new dimension as I'm shooting in various locations throughout Southern California. As the project evolves, I will share my best work on Chasingcool.com. I also intend to enter prints for gallery exhibition and publish a book of my own work by end of the fourth quarter of 2021. It's a ton of work but I'm very excited about this project!
