A Narrative in a Single Photograph
I took this photograph in 2004 but it didn't make it to the gallery wall until 2008. I decided to resurrect it here from my archives as I think it may resonate for many of us today. The power of photography, in my opinion, is its ability to tell so much in just the instantaneous click of the shutter. I shot this photograph with a Nikon and 50mm lens, but it could have been taken with any camera or a cell phone for that matter. It did not require much skill at all on my part either. The essential task in making a photograph like this is that you must see it first, react quickly and think later.
"For me, seeing is an immersion in the world and thinking is always a process of gaining distance from it." (Wim Wenders). I couldn't agree more.
